Eight Months!

Ruby is very excited to be eight months old today.

And as an added bonus, perhaps one of the cutest pictures we've taken of her:

Night-Night Stella

Stella loves Ruby so much that she tried to take a nap in the crib. Stan was not amused.

I'm in Love

Birth Buddies

Gigi has always called Ruby her "birth buddy" because Gigi was part of my awesome labor support team. Gigi actually saw Ruby's head (and hair) moments before she was born, so they have a special bond. As a much belated gift for all of her love, support, cleaning, cooking, washing and general caretaking during the weeks following Ruby's arrival, we had these shirts made for the birth buddies. And here they are, modeling the finest in infant and grandmother fashion this weekend.

And another picture because I couldn't pick a favorite.

We Found It!

The camera cord has been located! I'm sure I will make up for lost time by posting pics several times today. So, post #1....

Our friends Emily and Justin were in Austin for the weekend and stopped by to meet Miss Rubina. We've known Emily and Justin, or Shaq as David likes to call him, since high school. David and Emily had a brief but very hot romance in 1997- it's hard for me to be nice to her when I know she broke David's heart. But I'll post their picture anyway because Ruby looks adorable.

Emilia's Life?

Yes, Ruby can't talk yet. But I still think this clip from Family Guy sums up what Emilia must feel her life is like sometimes.

Happy Birthday GiGi!

Gigi and Baba have been in Austin since Friday to celebrate Gigi's birthday. We've had a lazy weekend, playing poker and Wii while loving on Ruby and eating lots of good food. We even had a pitcher of margaritas at Polvo's to celebrate the birthday girl. We love you, Gigi. And Stanley's right- you get more beautiful every day!

Stella!

Stella is a strange dog sometimes, especially when it comes to Ruby.

Since Ruby's been mobile, I'd estimate that about 75 percent of the time that Ruby crawls over and touches Stella, the dog jumps up and moves a few feet away. So naturally we assumed that Stella wasn't entirely sold on the notion that a smaller Edmonson had entered the home and was being given free rein of the floor. We were fine with that, provided that Stella didn't try to act like too much of a [this is a family blog :)].

But we've noticed something the last week or so that suggest that, well, Stella really does love Ruby. A lot. Whenever Ruby's in her crib or nursing with Mom in her chair, Stella insists on laying in the room. It's gotten to the point that Stella now forcefully attempts to open the half-shut bedroom door late at night. This wouldn't be an issue if the door just glided open easily, but it's a tight fit that makes a bit of noise when it's opened.

So there I am, sitting on the couch last night around 10:45 pm. After a rough evening of getting Ruby to go down, she had finally accepted that a few hours of snoozing was okay and that Mom and Dad wouldn't disappear if she closed her eyes. I hear the bedroom door open, and I immediately knew it was the dog. Stella had been camping out in the guestroom, apparently waiting for the right moment to join Ruby ("right moment" being defined by Stella as when Ruby is sound asleep). Fortunately Ruby didn't wake up.

So I'm put in the awkward position of (quietly) hollering at Stella for what exactly? Wanting to lay in the same room as Ruby? Oy. So this post is a means of apologizing to Stella. I know she just loves Ruby and wants to protect her at night. I also know Stella is an avid reader of this blog, so she should get my note only a few minutes after I publish this.

Act Your Age, Not Your Shoe Size

Here is Miss Rubina, cruising and listening to her favorite Prince song in the Target parking lot. She just likes to jam in the front seat, AC blowing in her face, tooting the horn and dancing to the music.

Happy Birthday Tio Chuy!

Ruby wants to wish her Uncle Jesse a very happy birthday today! Ruby is so lucky to have you as her uncle, Megs must be jealous of all the kisses you give Rubina. We love you and hope you had a wonderful day.

Long Time No Blog

No, I'm not protesting the lack of comments from readers by refusing to post. Although I have considered it....we actually lost the cord to our camera. So, for right now, we're unable to upload pictures from the camera onto the computer. Hopefully, we will find the cord and resolve the issue within the next few days. To hold everyone over though, I do have a picture I snapped with my new phone.

Big fine woman

Ruby just went to the doctor for the sniffles that she's been having for the past week or so. Diagnosis: a cold. She did get weighed and measured again, and she's still a big ol' girl:
  • 19.6 pounds (85th percentile)
  • 28.75 inches (97th percentile)

Ruby learns to fly

This is my first attempt at iMovie. I'm pleased with the results.

Finally!

We've had three frames hanging on our bedroom wall for about a year now. A few months ago, we framed two smaller black and white images from our maternity session with the fabulous Lyndsay of Life in Motion Photography. I left the bigger frame empty because I wasn't sure what image of Ruby I wanted to put in the frame. David surprised me this week and had a favorite image of Ruby printed for the big frame. The photo was taken by a good friend with lots of photography talent who was kind enough to do a newborn session for us. I love to lay in bed now and look up at my baby's sweet face and chubby body. It's hard to believe that she's only one week old in the picture.

Bobby on a Hobby

Baba's hobby horse from 1944 is now in Baba and Gigi's gameroom. Ruby discovered it during our last visit to Houston and clearly loved it. Baba sent us his picture on the horse and I couldn't wait to post them together on Ruby's blog. We now know where Ruby gets her good looks. Love you, Babaganoush.

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain

Last night we got back from a five day trip to Tulsa to visit Ruby's grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many friends. Ruby had a blast and was on her best behavior for everyone, showing off her newly discovered soundless laugh (imagine hyperventilating with a smile on her face). We got to swim in the pool, eat great food, celebrate Great-Grandpa Lewis' 85th birthday, and, for the parents, sleep a little bit longer than usual.

Many, many thanks to my parents for hosting Emilia, Ruby, myself, Stella, Stanley, Lauren, and Jacob. We love y'all.

A few pictures for y'all to enjoy:

We forgot to do the seven month picture on the 30th, so seven plus a week will have to suffice.

Are We There Yet?

A little excerpt from the car ride home from Tulsa. Complete chaos and Ruby loves it.

Ruby just wanted to pop in and say hello to all her loyal readers.
