Stella is a strange dog sometimes, especially when it comes to Ruby.
Since Ruby's been mobile, I'd estimate that about 75 percent of the time that Ruby crawls over and touches Stella, the dog jumps up and moves a few feet away. So naturally we assumed that Stella wasn't entirely sold on the notion that a smaller Edmonson had entered the home and was being given free rein of the floor. We were fine with that, provided that Stella didn't try to act like too much of a [this is a family blog :)].
But we've noticed something the last week or so that suggest that, well, Stella really does love Ruby. A lot. Whenever Ruby's in her crib or nursing with Mom in her chair, Stella insists on laying in the room. It's gotten to the point that Stella now forcefully attempts to open the half-shut bedroom door late at night. This wouldn't be an issue if the door just glided open easily, but it's a tight fit that makes a bit of noise when it's opened.
So there I am, sitting on the couch last night around 10:45 pm. After a rough evening of getting Ruby to go down, she had finally accepted that a few hours of snoozing was okay and that Mom and Dad wouldn't disappear if she closed her eyes. I hear the bedroom door open, and I immediately knew it was the dog. Stella had been camping out in the guestroom, apparently waiting for the right moment to join Ruby ("right moment" being defined by Stella as when Ruby is sound asleep). Fortunately Ruby didn't wake up.
So I'm put in the awkward position of (quietly) hollering at Stella for what exactly? Wanting to lay in the same room as Ruby? Oy. So this post is a means of apologizing to Stella. I know she just loves Ruby and wants to protect her at night. I also know Stella is an avid reader of this blog, so she should get my note only a few minutes after I publish this.

Poor Stella! Henrik loves his Nellie and she puts up with a lot of 'love' I think it's great Ruby will have Stella to pal around with!
