My baby girl drank my milk for 2 years, 1 month and 1 week. It was the greatest gift I could give her and I still get emotional when I think about the ending of our breastfeeding relationship. Even now, over a month later, Ruby continues to ask to nurse. She's easily distracted when I tell her no, but I can't help but wonder how long she's going to continue to ask for it. I had wanted to breastfeed her until she was ready to be done, but the physical and emotional drain just became too much for my body and spirit.
To lighten the mood of this post, I will share two recent stories that demonstrate just how much Ruby loves her milky. The first is a conversation between my mother and Ruby at bedtime.
Gigi: Ruby, it's time for bed now. Do you want me to read you a book or sing you a song?
Ruby: Tell me a story, Gigi.
Gigi: Ok, what kind of a story do you want to hear? Do you want to hear about the day you were born?
Ruby: No. Tell me a story about mommy's boobies.
The second conversation was one between me and Ruby while cuddling in bed one recent morning.
Ruby: Milky, Momma?
Me: No, Rubes. Mommy doesn't make milky anymore.
Ruby: I just wanna touch 'em.
Me: No.
Ruby: I just want to smell 'em.
Me: (trying not to laugh) Smell them?!?
Ruby: Yes, they smell like flowers.
Girlfriend loves her some milky :)
