Power Hour

Our friends and family all know that Ruby is an infamously bad sleeper. Some friends have suggested that I try my best to get her used to having some quiet time alone in her room each afternoon. She can choose to nap on her own (HA!) or just have some quiet time with the toys until I go get her. I wanted to have a countdown clock for her before we started the process, but I thought I'd try to today without the clock because I am so wiped out from our morning playdate. So far, she has come out eleven times in 33 minutes. Each time she comes out of her room, I remind her that we are having some alone time this afternoon and that she needs to stay in her room until I come get her. She doesn't get upset and immediately runs back down the hallway to her room and closes the door. I'll hear her playing for a minute or two, then I hear the doorknob turn again and she magically reappears. I'm keeping track of what she says each time, because she is cracking me up.

"Please come back and read me this book. I need you to read me more books."

"Mom, I need to poop." (she actually did, so maybe I shouldn't count this one)

"My purple socks still fit me."

"Now I am trying on my babylegs. See? I have on a babyleg."

"Mommy, I found my pumpkin socks. They still fit me."

"My babydoll is in my room with me, but she pooped. I need to get her some wipes to wipe her bottom."

"These white socks fit me too! I think I will give them to Beatrice when she is older."

"Mommy, my red sock still fits me. But I could only find one."

"Mom, I think that all of my socks fit. These ladybug socks fit too."

"It is the daytime, Mom. It is not dark today. I do not need to sleep when it is not dark."

"These are my white socks. I have on white socks now."

"Mommy, I want to go in the car. I need to get a humpty dumpty book."

"Mom, I am happy. Why can't you be happy too? Be happy!"

It's now been forty-five minutes and she's come out thirteen times. I will be ordering a clock this weekend.

with a brain like that, it's no wonder she can't sleep.

Oh my goodness! Socks are obviously the fabulous fashion item! I will pray for just a little peace and quiet for Rubes AND her momma. Love y'all. JuJu
