Ten on Tuesday

1. Yesterday was rough; Ruby just wasn't herself from the moment she woke up. I think everyone, including Ruby, was relieved when bedtime finally came. Today, however, was a great day. Ruby and I spent about an hour this afternoon reading books together in her room. One of the books we read was "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." When I finished reading the book, Ruby looked at me and said "Yesterday was a very bad day, momma." She's so wise.

2. A happy picture from yesterday, from the Milwood Fourth of July Parade and Picnic.

3. Another happy picture from yesterday, Ruby and her Daddy on the parade route.

4. And one more picture from yesterday, Ruby and Momma on the firetruck.

5. Tonight I made a nice steak dinner for the three of us to enjoy together. We even ate on our fancy china. Ruby seemed to enjoy dinner, but was sure to point out several times that when Gigi makes steak for dinner, she also serves shrimp or lobster. Gosh Gigi, you're fancy. And so sorry to disappoint you, Rubes.

6. Ruby has a crush on our friend, Patrick. We don't see Patrick too often, but when we do, Ruby becomes very quiet and smiley. After seeing Patrick last Saturday, Ruby had this to say: "When I see Patrick, I want to say 'I love you.' But all I can do is laugh."

7. We have finally made progress on Bea's nursery. I don't want to post pictures until it's all done, so I'll have a reveal post soon. But I will say that David went above and beyond on the paint job. He spent the greater part of 48 hours painting the room and it looks fabulous.

8. Ruby spent last week with my parents in Houston. I've been worn out lately and needing a break, so my folks offered to take Ruby to "Camp Gigi and Baba" for a few days. It went splendidly according to my parents and Ruby. She slept through the night the whole time she was there, and even took naps each afternoon. I was hoping the nap trend would continue once she came home, but sadly, it did not.  I guess that Gigi wore Ruby out with all the swimming, arts and crafts, and yummy food.

9. We picked Ruby up on Friday.  She gave us hugs and we hung out in the car for a bit with my mom, as we met her half way between Houston and Austin at a gas station. I was sitting in the backseat next to Ruby, cuddling her a bit before we headed back home and telling her how much I missed her. She started sniffing my arms, hands, face, and neck while I was talking. She kept smelling me for the rest of the afternoon and evening, even closing her eyes and smiling while she did it. I told David that it was the second most loved I've even felt in my life, just behind the moment he asked me to marry him.

10. The smelling has stopped, but the need to be with me at all times has not. Ruby has been home for five days now and is still wanting to be at my side ALL.THE.TIME. I don't know if it's to make up for being away for a few nights last week, or if it's a precursor of things to come when Beatrice arrives, but it's exhausting. While I could use a few moments to myself each day, I will admit that I love nothing more in the world than Ruby cuddles, as seen here:

I am really looking forward to spending a lot of time with Ruby next week. And letting her momma get some well-deserved quiet time, or a massage??? Rubes, you are such a sweetheart, and JuJu loves you very much. Love and kisses, JuJu
